Cowan International’s client, a dynamic General Contractor with an extensive portfolio of institutional, commercial and civil heavy industrial projects, is looking to fill a critical Superintendent role.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Superintendent will manage the day-to-day execution of a $20M greenfields construction project.

Create an important public facility needed by a local First Nations community
Work onsite and engage a remote community that most will never encounter
Subsequently be awarded more assignments in this employer’s Northern project pipeline

A Builder, Coordinator, Facilitator and Manager
A Mobilizer of People and Materials with strong administrative, coordination & motivational skills
Technically astute and excelling as a Superintendent in institutional and commercial projects
Passionate about working in the North and impacting communities
Fluent in French (paramount) and English (ideal, but not essential)
Seeking a pipeline of subsequent project work

Manage this project semi-autonomously, as your superior will be on site <1 week per month
Empower your teams to safely deliver on time, under budget, and with quality
Supervise foremen and a resident engineer, the latter helping you with paperwork, scheduling and QC
Manage up to 30 total reports on site at a given time, initially ~15 for the set up; this then grows to ~20 to do the foundation work; then masonry; while working on the structure, the number will go up by another 8-10.
Assist the Project Manager with site meetings with the Client
Effectively utilize and monitor sub-contractors specialized in steel structural, mechanical and electrical work

Valid Journeyman Accreditation(s) with the CCQ
A Carpentry (ideally) or other Trade Background pertinent to new building construction
10 years’ experience as Superintendent / Foreman
General Contractor experience on large scale, >$15M institutional / commercial, projects
Previous experience supervising >30 personnel including sub-contractors
Experience working in 3 or more positions overseeing projects of comparable size and complexity in remote locations
Expertise in concrete foundation and steel structural work for institutional clients
Demonstrated capacity to manage many resources on a site
Strong aptitudes in planning
Understanding, respect, support and enforcement of plans & specifications, quality control and health & safety
Track record of working effectively with Northern indigenous populations, ideally in Nunavik or Nunavut
Highly proficient French-speaking ability, English being an asset.
