Superintendent of Corporate Affaires

 Cowan International is recruiting a Senior Superintendent Corporate Affairs for a world-renowned copper mining company.

Directly reporting to the Managerial Leader Corporate Affairs, you will collaborate with them to advise management and internal stakeholders on all matters pertaining to risk prevention and management, crisis management, compliance with internal and international standards. You will provide administrative, compliance and reporting support, as well as ad-hoc advice concerning day-to-day matters affecting the site.


Responsibilities



  • Guide the site management and internal stakeholders to prevent and mitigate risks, by ensuring the effective implementation of strategies in the relevant areas of expertise.

  • Assist with the preparation, management and follow up of inspections from all DRC administrators and authorities, in coordination with Government Relations and in agreement with management.

  • Elaborate on and implement action plans to meet the objectives and priorities of the site and protect the interests of its shareholders; ensure timely implementation of corrective actions when needed.

  • Manage disputes and claims in the best interest of the site and its shareholders and ensure that there is an adequate grievance mechanism in place and that it is appropriately managed to prevent or if required promptly address disputes or claims.

  • Oversee the preparation and management of relevant documentation and permits and ensure a “permit register” is prepared and maintained.

  • Assist the site with the preparation of draft documents, contracts, templates and reports aimed at local stakeholders, including draft agendas, minutes, and conveying decisions.

  • Identify innovative ways to improve business practices, processes and synergies to save costs, increase efficiencies and improve service delivery.

  • Build professional working relationships with stakeholders to enhance work delivery and collaboration, to ensure optimised customer experience and service throughout the value chain.

  • Provide internal stakeholders with advice concerning key matters as and when required.

  • Manage a capable, high-performing and respected team. Coordinate, monitor and manage the performance of direct reports.

  • Ensure that all team members are competent to deliver the outputs of their jobs within a specified time after being appointed in the position.

  • Ensure financial integrity of area of responsibility, by complying with cost controls in order to achieve section budget and monitoring costs or expenses to achieve cost efficiencies.

  • Minimise fines and penalties by ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, work standards, and governance requirements in area of accountability.

  • Implement the divisional transformation plan and monitor and measure progress: Contribute to an integrated culture and climate where organisational values are demonstrated and lived.

  • Adhere to the HSEQ plan for the Business area and take remedial actions where necessary to ensure achievement of a Zero Harm culture.

  • Implement reporting best practice for area of responsibility.

  • Ensure risk management, quality assurance, governance and compliance throughout area of responsibility by supporting a functioning Corporate Affairs Governance structure and ensure quality assurance across the entire function.

  • Anticipate audits/ inspections and proactively identify potential non-compliances for prompt regularisation.


Requirements



  • A 5-year Law degree in the relevant area of expertise in DRC, France or Belgium, preferably with consistent honors. Ideally, in Civil law jurisdiction.

  • More than 5 years of experience working in Francophone African countries sub-Saharan Africa (ideally in DRC) in an international standard firm, ideally with significant exposure to mining projects and in-house experience (for instance in the extractive industry or infrastructure sector).

  • In-depth knowledge of the mining industry’s international standards.

  • An experience in Permitting & Regulatory environments will be an advantage.

  • Fluency in French and English essential.
