Cowan International is recruiting a Project Manager to extend the current mining operations of an international mining company’s major mining complex in West Africa.
The Project Manager will lead this Project from design to the completion of execution.
This position reports to the Director of Engineering and Projects.
Responsibilities of the Project Manager
• Delivers the necessary studies, from preliminary study of options, (OoM), PFS, FS, including development of a mine plan, environmental and social impact studies, and new infrastructure
• Responsible for the overall management of the study including engineering & design, scope definition, cost effectiveness, quality, schedule/setting project goals & deadlines, risks, resources/staffing & performance evaluation, opportunities, costumer satisfaction (Mine Manager, Project Director, Steering Committee, General Management, etc.)
• Accountable for construction services provided by consultants and subcontractors: e.g., safety, technical performance, maintainability, operability, constructability, design cost, cost effectiveness of design solutions, design and construction schedule
• Ensures that safety, environmental, community and health are conducted according to standards and Company commitment
• Meets the Company’s expectations for operation, maintainability and operability and requirements for constructability
• Ensures that the design technical content incorporates the most appropriate technologies
• Develops and maintains effective project controls systems for cost, schedule and change management
• Ensures regular, accurate and timely status reports are issued to operations customers for all design and engineering tasks
• Ensure all project documentation is prepared and updated
Experience and Competencies required for the Project Manager role
• Mining Engineering Degree; a Post Graduate Business or Project Management study is favourable
• 15+ years’ experience in the mining industry with solid experience in project management for a mining company
• A proven track record in successfully delivering multidisciplinary projects; experience delivering projects in West Africa is favourable
• Strategic thinking, business acumen and customer focus
• Strong problem-solving skills especially the capacity to resolve escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments
• Effective Communicator, Strong Leadership
• Ability to speak, read and write in English and French
