A leading consulting engineering firm with a strong mine tailings services presence in Central and Eastern Canada wishes to build a team around a well-rounded director-level mine tailings specialist in Western Canada. This newly created permanent, residential position will be based in Vancouver.

YOU ARE KNOWN FOR HAVING THIS PROFILE IN THE INDUSTRY
YOU
• Sit on various committees
• Are a member of the CDA
• Present papers at conferences
• Balance a strong management side (strategist, builder, manager, leader, mentor, coach) with a strong technical side (tailings design, project management)
• Specialize in the metals mining tailings industry
• Are connected to metals owner-miners throughout BC/Western Canada
• Serve as EOR for tailings facilities (ideally)
YOU WILL
• BUILD a TAILINGS-WESTERN CANADA TEAM in close collaboration with your direct supervisor, VP Tailings, Water & Environment-Western Canada
• GROW mine tailings presence at new, existing and legacy client mine sites in Western Canada to the level of those of the Central and Eastern Canada Teams.
• Leverage your BC owner-miner relationships into project assignments
• Start off working on BC projects with initial personnel and resource support coming from the Central and Eastern Canada Teams, which have workloads that prevent them from servicing Western Canada to its full potential.
• Then expand activities to Western Canada as well other potential work throughout Canada
• Provide technical leadership across Western Canada
• Apply CDA & GTS best practices related to mine tailings and closure work
• OVERSEE all mine tailings, mine waste and mine closure activities in Western Canada
• Directly MANAGE/LEAD or OVERSEE project managers running mine tailings and closure projects
• DEVELOP team member capabilities where needed
• Lead the team’s strategic planning
• Ensure high quality services
• Prepare and present strategies, market trends, budget forecasts and quarterly/annual operational reports
• Foster cross-discipline synergies with your counterpart WATER & ENVIRONMENT WESTERN CANADA TEAMS
YOU BRING
• Aspirations of building a REGIONAL TAILINGS TEAM with national reach
• Metals mining focussed career
• Strong technical background in geotechnical/civil engineering
• Expert knowledge of all facets of tailings design, construction and mine closure practices for mining facilities, particularly tailings and waste storage facilities in various climatic and seismic regions
• Pure consulting or combined consulting+owner-employed profile
• Minimum of 15 years mine tailings technical experience
• 10 or more years experience working at management level
• Proven track record growing and successfully managing technical teams
• Solid Western Canada presence
• EOR status - advantageous, but not essential
