Cowan International is in search of a bilingual Regional Human Resources Manager for a dynamic mid-tier mining & metals company in Africa.

Based at the Regional Office and reporting to the COO, the Regional Human Resources Manager will champion a progressive cultural transformation across the company’s mining operations in Africa.

Lead Human Resources (HR) Functions of all African-based Mining Operations
Bring Harmonization, Consistency and Fairness via Communication
Decentralize and Delegate the more basic HR functions to Mine Site HR Managers
Empower the Regional HR Operations Team to execute more Long-Term Functions and Vision
Renew/Re-design, Implement, Communicate, Drive and Continuously Improve HR functions to assist the company in achieving its strategic operational goals
Drive Local Talent Identification, Development, and Succession at senior-levels
Foster among all operational personnel a sense of belonging to the same company
Show energy and enthusiasm that inspire a new, vibrant and infectious Organizational Culture
Provide a visible on-the-ground site-to-site presence

An HR Manager-Operations
Builder & Implementer of new HR tools, policies and processes
Change Agent that integrates and optimizes HR functions that truly benefit a mining company
Exceptional Communicator that ensures that personnel throughout operations are working closely together, meeting regularly, in constant discussions and sharing information, site experiences and ultimately best practices
Effective in promoting the Career Development of National Superintendents, Managers & Directors
A good Listener and Coach, capable of empowering direct reports & Site HR Managers
Seeking a Rotational Expatriate assignment
Willing to Travel and be on-the-ground at sites, in addition to running a Regional HR Team

A university bachelors/tertiary qualification/BAC+3 degree in HR or related discipline
Management-level HR generalist expertise in mining & metals operations
Track record in designing and implementing innovative HR functions
Demonstrated & supportive leadership in making major changes and transformations that foster growth in the capability of teams to deliver real business outcomes
High level strategic planning and decision-making abilities
Knowledge and experience in organizational planning, compensation & benefits, employee & labour relations, and recruitment management
Previous on-site and regional experiences in domestic and remote developing world locations
Best practice know-how
High proficiency in French and English (essential)
