Cowan International’s client, a dynamic General Contractor with its extensive portfolio of institutional, commercial and civil heavy industrial projects, is looking to fill a critical Project Manager role.

Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for the estimation, planning and management of assigned construction projects. Projects can be turnkey, cost-plus or fixed-price. The incumbent will also be assigned ‘special’ projects based on organizational needs as well as design projects, if he/she has the capability to perform the latter.

Responsibilities of the Senior Project Manager
• Capable of producing sound estimates and budgets within quota
• Preparation of the estimation report after a contract is awarded
• Setting project standards and monitoring processes
• Production of purchase orders, and follow-up of deliveries, permit requests
• Coordinate site equipment, materials and mobilization
• Coordinate meetings
• Manage and update the schedule based on the progress being made on-site
• Develop project plans for prevention, quality, inspection, testing and start-up
• Manage proposals and selection of contractors
• Monitor the finances of the project and ensure the project complies with set performance indicators
• Monitor the budget and actively participate in corrective actions when required
• After the closure of the contract, monitor the deficiencies, production and the deliverables
• Respect and adhere to the business processes of the company and actively participate in continuous improvement activities by offering practical improvement proposals
• Participate in special projects as needed
• Offer the company both reliable and constructive expertise

Experience and Competencies required for the role
• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture or other related discipline, or…
• Diploma in Architectural Technology coupled with equivalent experience
• 10 to 12 years relevant experience
• Strong communication, planning, decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Strong business acumen, i.e. understanding how projects impact the business methods of execution to maximise value to the business
• A good understanding of materials, tools, equipment, and construction techniques
• A vast network in the construction industry
• Excellent knowledge of common IT tools such as MS-Office, MS-Project etc.
• Available to travel occasionally based on the needs of the organization
• Fluency in English and French
