Cowan International is in search of a high caliber Process Plant Director for a large-scale mining & metals operation in Africa.

Reporting to the site Deputy General Manager, the Process Plant Director is the No.1 responsible for all Fixed Plant Activities – Leach, Refinery, Utilities and Port.  

Champion Continuous Improvement Initiatives and lead a state-of-the-art plant operating facility to steady state conditions
Manage all sub-departmental managers within a Large, Complex Process Plant – Leach, Refinery, Utilities, Technical Services, Maintenance and Shutdowns
Be accountable for reaching product delivery targets
Develop an Operational Excellence culture
Effectively work in concert with your counterparts as well as the service departments (supply chain, finance, human resources, etc.)
Drive a culture of Preventative and Reliability-Centered maintenance that effectively leads to Operational Discipline
Be an effective contributor to the company’s Succession Planning by ensuring there is dedicated training and empowerment of National superintendents, supervisors and lead-hands
Be supportive of plant operator training and trades Training programs
In association with the HR Director, ensure that labour relations get ‘front-and-center’ attention
In association with the Community Manager, foster and develop sound relations with the community

Specialized in fixed process plant operations management
An experienced Director that has supervised on the order of 1000 direct and indirect reports within a Fixed Plant Group
A good listener and coach, capable of empowering your Manager and Superintendent reports
Experienced with overseeing processing production and maintenance
Not only a Proven Process Manager, but you have a sound understanding, if not an expertise, in maintenance practices
Business-savvy, comfortable managing budgets
An implementer and executer of processing Best Practices
A proponent and driver of plant training programs
A Driver of development of National superintendents and supervisors
A communicator who empowers peers, subordinates and the workforce to yield a communicative and collaborative interdisciplinary work environment
Responsible and engaged in environmental programs and community relations.
Driven to achieve Nameplate Capacity

A university bachelors/tertiary qualification/BAC+3 degree in a metallurgical, chemical, process or related Engineering field
A minimum of 20 years experience in process operations
Track Record of managing Big, Complex Plants
Experience with High Pressure, High Temperature, and Exotic Materials
Experiences in multiple Complex Chemical, Petroleum, Alumina or Nickel Laterite REFINERIES. Classic gold or base metal mineral processing plant experiences will not be considered
