Cowan International is in search of a high caliber Mine Operations Manager for a large-scale mining & metals operation in Africa.

Reporting to the Mine Director, as second-in-charge of the mining department, the Mine Operations Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of the mine plan.

Have full accountability for all surface mine production
Ensure that all production, quality and safety targets are reached while maintaining costs
Play a key part in driving Continuous Improvement Initiatives and ultimately co-leading a state-of-the-art mining operating facility to steady state conditions
Leverage your open pit mining experience and skills in terms of advancing current dispatch, blending and rehabilitation practices
Effectively work in concert with your peer departments (maintenance, technical, processing) as well as service departments (safety, supply chain, finance, human resources, etc.)
Assist the Operator Training program in effectively upgrading operator performance throughout the production team
Act as the Relief Mine Director overseeing a large mining department when your superior is off site

Seeking a Residential Status Expatriate assignment
Specialized in surface mining operations management
An experienced Manager that has supervised >200 direct+indirect reports at a given time
A Communicator who empowers peers, subordinates and the accompanying workforce to yield a communicative and collaborative interdisciplinary work environment
A natural coach, capable of training and developing National employees

A diploma/certificate in mining which would be advantageous, but is not essential
(Please note that a tertiary qualification is not required for this position)
Minimum of 15 years of experience in O/P Truck & Shovel mining operations
Minimum of 5 years in a similar position
Experience having carried out effective Continuous Improvement practices
Previous experience working in a remote developing country
Mature presence that fosters an organizational culture and track record that reflect success, composure, flexibility, optimal teamwork & interdepartmental synergies and National empowerment
French-speaking ability which would be advantageous, but is not essential
