Cowan South Africa is recruiting a Maintenance Planning Superintendent for this exciting mining project in Africa. Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, the incumbent is accountable for all operations readiness activities associated with the Maintenance Planning, including participation in HAZOP studies, model and detail design reviews for maintainability, equipment selection and lifecycle costs.

• Responsible for the development, implementation and review of the maintenance annual plan in order to ensure key milestones are achieved, deviations are identified, and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner
• Lead the implementation and compliance to operational policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls related to the Maintenance Planning function so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost effective service in a consistent manner
• Monitors the financial performance of the maintenance planning function against budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and rectified promptly and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon
• Supervise the planning and execution of all asset management strategies and activities to ensure plant reliability and availability, cost effectiveness, productivity and asset integrity
• Supervise and guides the short-term and long-term maintenance and shutdown maintenance planning and scheduling in order to ensure that maintenance activities are effectively implemented in line with the plant requirements, with minimal disruption to productivity
• Oversees the effective delivery of the weekly maintenance plan to ensure equipment reliability tactics are effectively coordinated across the refinery, and adequately resources with staff and material
• Coordinate with the shutdown planning, production planning and project teams to ensure effective integration of activities to maximize production and minimize costs in a sustainable manner
• Oversees the development of the maintenance plans by reviewing the maintenance activities list, reviewing data and maintenance job logs etc., in order to ensure detailed activities, resources, spare parts, and man-hours are adequately planned and scheduled to optimize plant and equipment availability
• Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Planning function to ensure that work processes are implemented as designed and comply with established policies, processes and procedures
• Supervise the activities and work of subordinates by providing formal and informal feedback to ensure that all work within the Maintenance and Planning function is carried out in an efficient manner and in accordance with set individual targets
• Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the section in order to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude

• Currently or was recently employed in a similar position

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Preferably a qualification in Planning and/or post graduate degree in Maintenance Planning or Production Engineering
• At least 8 – 10 years of experience, of which at least 3 years were spent in a supervisory role
• Preferred experience in Maintenance Planning within Port operations
• Strong maintenance execution (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and/or civil maintenance) and maintenance planning experience
• In-depth knowledge of all Port/Rail operating areas and production processes
• In depth knowledge of maintenance and asset management practices, processes and systems
• Strong knowledge of cost planning and control
• Excellent trouble-shooting ability and problem-solving skills
• Ability to build and manage strategic relationships internally and externally
• Strong understanding of contract management practices and processes
• In-depth knowledge of SAP
• Budget and cost control
• Knowledge / Experience of lean manufacturing (system and tools) applied to maintenance management
• Strong ability to motivate and coach staff to excel regular performance capacity
• Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to engage all players to achieve the goal
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in coaching and mentoring
