Cowan International is seeking an experienced General Manager for a leading supplier of earthmoving equipment which has state of the art technology to ensure their customers productivity is at the highest level.  Their focus is on ensuring the customer experience is exceptional, their people are engaged, trained and can develop their careers, and that safety is a number one priority.


Reporting to the Director of the Customer Support Division, the General Manager has overall responsibility and accountability for the operations and profitability of the region: In particular:

• Provide high levels of customer support and service to the Group’s key customers across the region
• Optimise after-market sales & operating profit, and support Mining & Construction equipment sales
• Continuously improve HSE and always meet applicable standards & legislation.
• Accountable for the management and efficient operation
• Managing all elements of the regional operation to achieve growth and profitability in accordance with the requirements of the Group

Supervising 170 employees including 6 direct reports, the General Manager leads the Regional activities to align with the Group Policy Deployment and strategic initiatives.


The General Manager has operational, people management, governance, HSE and financial management responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Responsible for full Profit and Loss achievement for the region including new equipment sales, after-market sales growth,
• Develop activities in the region to support key result areas
• Lead employee engagement activities to achieve measurable engagement outcomes
• Develop regional strategies in the key reporting areas of Commercial, HR, Service, Parts, Contracts, and Technical Support
• Manage after-market sales and service performance to deliver and exceed budget/planned requirements
• Ensure Branch and Contract site operations including; communications, locations, tooling and facilities are sufficient to support existing customers and provides the commercial footprint for future growth
• Maintain a continual drive to improve satisfaction levels with existing customers and a customer centric focus
• Represent and promote the company with customers, governmental agencies, suppliers, and the general public in a professional manner
• Prepare capital expenditure or investment proposals as necessary.
• Ensure the training and development of employees to meet specific technical and non-technical competencies
• Undertake regular performance reviews with department managers ensuring clear performance objectives are set
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with all relevant and applicable employment and related legislation
• Comply with all legal requirements, systems, policies, procedures, instructions and any other guidelines or rules which are introduced to protect the health and safety of employees and contractors, the company’s assets, the general public and the environment as out lined in the relevant Health, Safety and Employment Responsibility Policies
• Prevent and stop, if necessary, any activity that is thought will result in a breach of HSE Standards, initiatives or Regulatory compliance
• Ensure all financial transactions are conducted in line with the Group guidelines and policy

• Tertiary qualifications in Management, Commerce
• Strong customer relationship management skills and contract management
• Excellent negotiation skills

• Clear vision of corporate direction
• Strong communication skills, written and spoken
• Computer literacy
• Awareness of Occupational Health & Safety requirements; Government & Industrial Legislation; and environmental requirements
