Cowan South Africa is recruiting a Central Control Room Superintendent for this exciting Greenfield project in Africa. Reporting to the Port Operations Manager, the incumbent will lead all Control Room operations that cover the controlled rail and port activities plus the monitored barging and transshipping activities.
This role will suit a superintendent with previous cargo handling technical, scheduling and supervisory skills, strong interpersonal skills and proven international experience.

• Embed safety as the highest priority throughout all Operational activities and within contractor activities (controlled and monitored)
• Identifies and communicates operational targets and ensures KPIs and objectives are met within safety, quality, cost and schedule within the rail, port and marine operational areas
• Development of the control room operational plans & coordination of schedules and planning, including workforce, recruitment, mobilisation, operational readiness and training schedule, and associated budgets
• Via the Integrated Management System (IMS), control the Quality Assurance function to ensure all cargos are safe to ship and meet customers’ quality requirements
• Ensure operations input to detailed design, project execution, and commissioning and start-up phases of the IMS and supporting systems & processes.
• Define and participate in activities necessary to ensure operational success of operational readiness, FOOS, ramp-up and continuous improvement.
• Aggregates, organizes, and disseminates operational and project information with internal and extended teams.
• Coordinate with the Project Construction Team and Contractors for specialist operational advice input in to the development and roll out of the IMS.
• Harmonise with the company and offtakers to harmonise and optimise all operational schedules.
• Establish and manage working relationships within the team, including Procurement, Contract Management, Finance, Stakeholder Management, HSSEC, HR and Governance
• Ensure compliance with all relevant business processes and procedures
• Perform other reasonable related duties or assignments as directed
• Deputise for Port Operations Manager as required

• Currently (or was recently) employed in a similar position
• Good communicator
• Team Player and motivator

• Previous experience in mining rail & port export Control Room operations
• Experience and knowledge of port, transshipping and shipping operations
• Diploma or higher in Port Operations, Logistics or similar Management.
• Minimum 3 years of mining exports and/or marine & shipping operations including cargo handling under IMSBC regulations.
• Experience with project operations across all phases of project including staffing ramp-up; operational readiness; training & development; pre-commissioning; commissioning and ramp-up.
• Preferably African and/or remote environment experience
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to control and co-ordinate operations with port supervisors, project/construction managers and PMC contractors.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment
• Ability to analyse and generate specific management/stakeholder reports
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a greenfield project for owners’ team
• Strong operational and technical background
• Languages: Advanced fluency in English and intermediate French
